In the obscurantist Austria of the 18th century, young Christian von Meruh begins to doubt about the legitimacy and relevance of Inquisitor Lord Cumberland’s deeds… A cursed film, “Mark of the Devil” accumulated all possible afflictions, from its genesis to its release, submitting its director to an unenviable torture, Michael Armstrong being dispossessed by his producer Adrian Hoven in person who edited the film according to his own ideas. Pushing back the limits in terms of graphic violence, “Mark of the Devil” has been heavily butchered by the censors before being simply banned from the British screens, while the North American spectators were given a vomit-bag with their ticket.
