There remains the imperialist idea according to which music is a universal phenomenon spanning time and human societies. If there’s a fragile connection weaved across the artists from the 2018 programme, it might precisely be this engagement toward the dissolution of music through the spectacle of music, with all the consequences implied for life. Phill Niblock doesn’t describe himself as a musician, but as an intermedia artist. Billy Roisz creates glitches between sound and light. Joe Colley annihilates the status of the artist-author. Kill incarnates the murder of rock music. Martin “demolition” Rev brings punk into art galeries. There’ll also be an acoustic guitar without amplification, broken phallic necks and policemen in prevention campaigns.
